Thus vendors, will need to add it, regardless of whether they the vendor has hired generative engineers/developers or went third party. Those were the days.

The way a 3rd party content provider works with an LXP (or any learning system that offers a marketplace) is that they have a partnership agreement – allowing the vendor to have them in their marketplace. For example, GO1 has provided five courses/content in the past for free for some vendors. All 3rd party content is fee-based.

Sure a vendor can say we are an LXP, but a LMS too or vice versa. LMS vendors on the other hand are adding LXP features, to counter, and in some marketing may note, learning experience blah blah. . One vendor Linkedin Learning bases it on everyone in the system, regardless if they work at your place or not. E-commerce.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the majority of vendors who go with Gen-AI (and eventually, they all must, or they will be too far behind), use GPT (by OpenAI). I’m already seeing the sidestep I wrote about just a week ago, in order for vendors to reduce cost (those tokens). Maybe today it is ChatGPT (cheaper token-wise).

Look today, at the number of folks who still hang onto ILT. It was clear that not even LXP vendors (as a whole) knew – which explained why they targeted L&D, ignoring the other monster in the room, training. The data shows that what many vendors assume end users want is far from accurate. Too many vendors are focusing on talent/performance management as the next feature/component in their systems. rather then going through the LMS vendor. I have found I can land a better price then using the quick way via the LMS vendor.

If they were a vendor who played in EdTech (K-12, HE) but also played into corporate and did so, not just by having clients find them, but actively through marketing, they were considered too. Strictly If the vendor was a custom shop building a system, off say Moodle or whatever code they are using that is open source? Maybe you scored it via Wiley, but in many possibilities you purchased the content thru your LMS vendor. It’s much easier than say going directly to the content provider, buying it from them and then having them talk to your LMS vendor to put it in for you (which, honestly you should do, because it will save you money).

I don’t and still don’t understand the love for Kirkpatrick, which was designed/created for ILT. I see that folks take this model for ILT, then shove them into the online course builds and go, “See, it is perfect for that.” The rest captures the learner’s attention; I rarely see it in seminars for ILT.

What irked my brain on a recent press release was that the vendor announced they would have over 12,000 courses from Linkedin Learning (it is the Lynda.com courses/content) in their (the vendor’s) system. . One well-known vendor told me they want people who are brand new to online learning course building, or if you think of a triangle, the bottom of that pyramid. People coming from ILT who have never built an e-learning course. Which in this case, are the majority of vendors. Geez, what an honor. I feel your pain by the way.

The vendor says they can meet my use case, it’s a perfect fit, I move forward. We used to do a lot of on-site ILT. You force the vendor to provide details. There are vendors who I consider masters of marketing. Just because a system has been around since the early 2000’s, doesn’t mean it is dated.

This is a growing market with new vendors showing up, but at the same time, others disappearing. If a RCAT vendor tells you they have been in business for over 10 years, they are somewhat misleading, since WBT courses really didn’t start to hit the mark until 2000 and then you have limited choices on how to build.

What really bothers me more so, is when certain learning system vendors tell me they do not offer social or NexGen functionality because their clients either do not want it or because of security concerns by the client.
