What is SAAS and why is hosted better than having it on your own servers. The bottom line without getting technical or overly detailed, the solution is hosted on your vendor’s servers and not hosted on your internal servers. Benefits versus having it on my servers (behind my firewall).

I’ve heard it from vendors. Many consumers, I surmise are doing it already without even realizing it, and even some vendors are too. Preferably on/off synch, but as I mentioned in my LinkedIn mini-post, most learning system vendors still are not on/off synch with said mobile app. The Connectors. APIs/Integrations.

While many companies see this as a non issue, remember that for many of these companies they exist in the Fortune 500 or Global 2000. Do you already have servers available or will you have to purchase a few more? Do you offer load balance with those servers, because if you have 10,000 or more employees hitting it, you will want it.

SaaS product – but here’s the thing – if you want the course to be in your LMS – it can but it still sits on the ZZ server side and not in your system (should note that the LMS connectivity is available only in the $40/u version). COPs hit their heyday back in the mid 2000′s.

I can count on my fingers how many content vendors offer courses to teach folks a foreign language. I know of a well-known content provider who still has content from the early 2000’s sitting on their servers (along with more recent content). Foreign Language anyone? But the other players? Bottom Line.

This is a growing market with new vendors showing up, but at the same time, others disappearing. If a RCAT vendor tells you they have been in business for over 10 years, they are somewhat misleading, since WBT courses really didn’t start to hit the mark until 2000 and then you have limited choices on how to build.

Compliance – but just because a vendor says they have it, they be turning items that really aren’t into something that works. Built-in authoring tool – If you are expecting something like Storyline, forget it – not there yet; unless vendor has a partnership with an authoring tool vendor – example: Claro.
