It is that time of year when everyone is coming out with there trends to watch in 2011, and with that I jump on the bandwagon. They are similar to what you see in your standard LMS, course content, learning paths, reporting – but it is not as robust (which is fine for some end users). Social Learning and M-Learning.

Vendors are hearing us and are making changes. More multilingual options to their web sites, trials and social learning. Lite LMSs are growing and there is clearly a need in 2011. Newest Version – LMS/Learning Portal Directory. As of 1-13-2011, there were ZERO dead links. LMS Directory.

I’m on my way to get a car that enables me to launch a robust social learning system. OmniSocial is a social learning platform, with learning management capabilities and with the ability to select individual apps in the system and only use those you select to install onto your web site or learning portal.

In the webinar, I brought up how LMS vendors were themselves perpetuating the myth of the bad things of social media (which is a necessary component of social learning), so, rather than identify the facts and data to potential clients who are concerned about social media and thus social learning, they instead do not include it in their system.

I include Learning Portals, LCMSs, as part of the mix. Extended Enterprise – System must have e-comm, multi-tenet – fully skinnable, additional functionality. That said, across the board for all Big Dog systems, their social learning functionality was weak. Social Learning is limited.
