The spin is that you can accrue points by reading an article, taking a course, leaving comments, ranking content, completing an assessment and so on – varies among vendors. I have spent the last year and a half, looking to see if there were any differences between a LMS and a learning platform. You can disagree and that is fine, and I’m sure some vendors will, but this is my take. Again, some LMSs did not and vice versa, some learning platforms, did, but the norm was LMS yes, learning platform no.

and AICC (why is there AICC? xAPI will be arriving in Q4 2015. Adobe sees the system as a LMS with LCMS features. It is a LMS, but hey if you want to pitch it equally as a LCMS go for it – since that market is drying up faster than a bunch of grapes sitting in the sun and turning into raisins.

Areas where I’ve used (and am using) interactive video is for conversational training such as a retail associate learning how to respond to customer requests. xAPI has become the valid standard for tracking all types of learning external to the LMS, yet I still haven’t developed a project, even a portfolio piece, using xAPI.

On day three, we learned how to import a SCORM course into your LMS. RTE covers the point from which a course is launched and determines how information, including scores, answers or bookmarks, are tracked back to an LMS. A SCORM will first attempt to find the API provided by an LMS in order to track data. Yep, that’s right.
