Five buzz words in the space – Read them now, before they sting you later (get it. Five Misnomers in the e-learning space. Learning Management System – has the standard feature sets found in the majority of systems. If you can find one that supports SCORM and PENS, to me you hit a home run. .

For the mobile learning space – it is a necessity. no SCORM, AICC or PENS – however, I am now seeing a few vendors offer PENS (created by AICC back in 2005, but slowly gaining traction). There are quite a few vendors in this space, but IMO the best one is dominKnow’s Claro.

The only real gain for survey tools – specifically polling – is the mobile real time polling option, but even then, it is starting to slide into some learning platforms. That said, if I was looking to enter the e-learning space, I wouldn’t choose the standalone survey, assessment or combination of the two market.

Also SCORM 1.2 & AICC. Embed features such as Widgets, Mashups – that people can find on the web or create themselves or that you offer, or that other end users can create and an exchange for people to share – exchanges in 2011 are going to grow in all e-learning spaces. LMS, web, CD, etc., it will not work.

If I am an authoring tool vendor, I would explore what is happening in the authoring tool market, what my product looks like, how I can make it better for my target audience and what do I see or others I trust see the e-learning space is heading. . At least SCORM support – Plenty still support AICC. Output to HTML5.
