Will xAPI be the one standard that is “the” standard? I wouldn’t call it pondering rather I would call it a huge misnomer in the entire authoring tool industry, course development industry – with vendors here – when it comes to course standards. I’ve even seen it with LMS vendors.

The spin is that you can accrue points by reading an article, taking a course, leaving comments, ranking content, completing an assessment and so on – varies among vendors. For some reason a lot of vendors, erroreously assume that modules is widely used – it isn’t. Then there is Tin Can aka xAPI.

Many LMS vendors make bold claims about the quality of customer support they deliver. Beyond simply asking a vendor about hours and channels covered, you should assess how equipped they are to respond to the common content issues that may arise. But if it only covers the platform, then customers aren’t really supported at all.

Course standards are course standards, and yes, you have the option to select CMI-5 and xAPI. What I am finding is that AICC is nearly gone in the LEP space (as it is with LMSs too), so if I was you, I’d seek SCORM, SCORM 1.2, xAPI as my top three. Most vendors in the LEP segment have this. Machine Learning (AI).

Bewildered on what is happening, why what is needed isn’t appearing as it should, and how is it possible that something so obvious based on where e-learning is heading, mobile is pushing and future tech is inspiring is lost among so many vendors? And therein lies one of the issues, that is showing up with many, many vendors.

You can disagree and that is fine, and I’m sure some vendors will, but this is my take. I’m not saying that LMS vendors overwhelm people on the admin side, I’m just saying they tend to offer more feature capabilities than a learning platform. ” Predictive Analysis is seen so far only in LMS vendors.
