As the rapid content authoring market continues to grow, new features and capabilities are equally growing. There are 124 authoring tools in my latest directory, of which 30 are SaaS or a combination of desktop and SaaS – which really what is the point of that? SaaS: Software is in the cloud, on the internet.

In 2010, the RCAT market continued its upswing and nothing indicates to me it will be changing anytime soon. Innovation abounded and the push to focus on the “PPT to Flash&# angle continued to shine. OR you can create courses SCORM 2004 courses within their tool which is in the “cloud&# and do the same thing.

More vendors showing off their products then in the past – still a couple believe that a poster board will do the trick. I tell my vendor clients – this is a must show to attend, compared to some others out there. For PPT lovers, you can synch video files with PPT with drag and drop.

I’ve been watching the market for a long time and seeing the growth that exists in the country. I wasn’t thunderstruck, but what I was surprised at was the number of folks who had or were about to purchase the well known authoring tools in the market, Articulate, Captive and Lectora. It was awesome.

Authoring Tools. Learning Management Systems. Mobile learning platforms. Social learning platforms. Do I need an authoring tool if I have a LMS? Do I need to get an authoring tool that is SCORM or can it just be proprietary? Yeah, you can upload word docs, PPT, etc.
