You work online via the servers of your vendor. I had thought that this trend would be dying out, but it is amazing at the number of vendors who are entering the space and still focused on the desktop approach. Microsoft Live – same thing. Yet, today it is gaining fast adoption across all e-learning lines.

Nice selection of vendors – in general. More vendors showing off their products then in the past – still a couple believe that a poster board will do the trick. Wi-Fi worked a lot better, but vendors and end users still had issues inside the expo hall. I heard this happen to two vendors.

That said, why is this happening: A significant (over 90%) of vendors are holding off this year and at least part of next year from optimizing their solution to the iPad. Two years ago, lots of LMS vendors were saying their systems were browser agnostic. Gartner projects 54.8 million units.

If you provide greater control to your end users, and after all, it is a social learning collaborative platform, this overload can happen faster then you think. Compatibility with older versions of Microsoft Office, if doesn’t really exist, so unless you have say 2007, you may face some challenges.

At least one tablet vendor is launching a 3D version, although you have to wear glasses. A company called Sony, is creating a Playstation 1 tablet that will come loaded with games; so e-learning companies could create fun and innovative game sims that adults would want to use, or develop product training games.

A LMS that came with a e-commerce, a chat room, discussion boards, front end look that did not appear to a be a LMS, library, bookstore (capability), art gallery (I used it for sponsorship purposes). The vendor? GeoLearning. What happened? Lets go back to the media center concept. Let me repeat this – consumers want it.

This is a growing market with new vendors showing up, but at the same time, others disappearing. Microsoft Word converted to Flash? Templates with some learning objects? 43 Vendors do not have one.
