If you want to track in a learning management system or learning platform that supports SCORM then you want it. If your goal is just to post the course on a server and let people access it, just for the sake of learning and you don’t care about tracking of any sort – then no, you do not need any compliance standard.

All they care about is whether the system is in “the cloud” SaaS or “in the cloud” to the consumer means that is it hosted on your servers or wherever you host your LMS and they can access it via the internet regardless of where they are located as long as they have an internet connection. Any vendor who sees you as a potential customer, should go to your web site and grab the banner/header or colors and place it in your demo before you begin. Q : I am curious on why Cornerstone On Demand, Saba and SumTotal do not appear in your top twenty lists even though they appear on other sites as the best products in the market. A common argument I’m hearing from vendors on why they do not offer a social learning component in their system. &# “Companies are blocking social media access at their site and/or have social media governance policies&#. One vendor asked if you wanted to learn more about their product and sent you to their help desk to notify them of errors or issues with their system (hmm, not likely to buy one from these guys). Over 90% of LMS vendors had their sites available only in English; so the potential customer could not view it in any other language.

In the cloud or on your own servers. Low cost systems are typically SaaS based (then again, the LMS industry as a whole is more SaaS based than hosted on your servers). Many vendors’ sites do not state this information in their pricing. Major downer: available only as hosted on your own servers. Bottom Line.

Then again, I have yet to attend a show that offered soy milk, although one time a server actually brought in their own the next day for me – that person deserves a raise! The biggest knock on the show in previous years was that it was getting smaller with less vendors. Why as an e-learning vendor you should attend this show.

This year, I estimated a 55/60% e-learning, including some ILT vendors offering some type of e-learning component. . In all the years I have attended and have known about ATD (formally ASTD), this year is by far the most in terms of e-learning vendors, especially those in the LMS space.

Even if the product is a desktop product all you need to do is upload the course to your own web server, use the vendor’s web server or via a LMS. Two vendors who pulled this “perception” is not reality come to mind. If their product line is 3/4 TM/HCM, than their focus is on the space. Bottom Line.

What is of note, is that this is not new in terms of systems being offered “in the cloud” This was happening back when e-learning began, with quite a few systems in the cloud by 2002. Systems that are only available as hosted on your own servers are starting to significantly decline. Prediction. I love this!

I have seen only a couple of vendors who require you ahead of time to enter in your web sites to visit, prior to going live on webinar, but that is an extreme rarity. Vendors who offer the ability to upload your PowerPoint, word docs, slides, etc. Does the recording stay on the vendor’s server and attendees access it?

Seems to focus more on client side server, when space as a whole is focused more on SaaS. Lets Go Site Administration. Kineo Partners handle hosting (if you want it) and support, rather than Kineo Group. Charge extra for hosting – Kineo Pacific told me 6K to host, Kineo Group told me 12K to 18K to host including support.
