Using Moodle to deliver self financing courses

I am hopeful that Moodle here at bromley College will begin to fulfil a commercial role following an enquiry the other day from company who required a course in Website Design for one of their employees. I have been running a very successful self financing course “HTML and JavaScript for Website Designers” for some time now, however it does require a minimum of 12 students to be viable, with the next one likely to start in January.

Today I sat down to write a short column for a magazine on the use of Flash as a delivery medium for e-learning. While searching for some history, I came across this Flash History by Rick Waldron. It seems Flash has its origins in a product called SuperSplash Animator, based largely on the work of graphics enthusiast and programmer, Jonathan Gay. Anyway, Macromedia acquired this product, renamed it Flash 1.0 and launched it in November 1996.

We talked briefly (as you do) about my research and I casually remarked that Sweden was the only Nordic country I had never visited. Pleasant chap. Nice conversation. I thought no more of it. When I got back to my office, he had send me an invitation to visit his university in Umea, to speak at their learning technology conference.

From my own perspective, if am driving or travelling on public transport, then yes I would listen to a podcast, however if was sat in front of a computer, then I would appreciate something more visual.
