Feature sets – they have to be more than PPT to Flash or add an audio clip and video clip to the course. Mobile Learning/HTML5 output – doesn’t hurt and has to be considered. It pitches that it is a m-learning product because it supports HTML5. It doesn’t output to HTML5, though. #8

AICC, SCORM and PENS support. My personal favorite feature is the timeline with individual tracks for audio, images and text. Studio has always been known for the PowerPoint to Flash approach, but it also includes audio narration, TOC (yeah!) 1st vendor IMO to truly have HTML5 output. Oh, HTML5 output too.

Use pertinent images to illustrate your key points. Once you have an image on a slide, try to review its contents and decide whether text is indispensable here or if you can do without it. It’s also nice to get your live image in the top or bottom right corner along with the main lesson-flow. In conclusion.

HTML5 output. Right now I am doing a survey on authoring tools (more on this at the end of the post) and so far 100% of all respondents state that HTML5 output is required in an authoring tool. I do believe that HTML5 output will continue to grow as an authoring tool feature. HTML5 templates. Others have at least 10.

Some vendors push heavily on PPT, implying that a great WBT is really a PPT converted to Flash. Flash output – still red hot. The latter is slowly gaining speed, which is an advantage to LMS vendors who have a CAT in their own product – which is SCORM,PENS/IMS compliant. Characters – images of real people.
