Well… to put it across in simple terms, SCORM is a ‘certificate’ that an LMS has to get, if it wants to score in the game of ‘inter-operatibility’. Imagine owning a stockpile of DVDs, but not a DVD player. Now, the DVD player that we seek should be able to play all types of DVDs single-handedly, isn’t it? Recipe for disaster?

You can put an audio player in there. But it’s still an emphasis on making sure the learner is finding value and getting something out of the program rather than just measuring their completion and maybe a quiz score or something like that. Some of them have what’s called xAPI support and some don’t.
