If your goal is just to post the course on a server and let people access it, just for the sake of learning and you don’t care about tracking of any sort – then no, you do not need any compliance standard. Yeah, you can upload word docs, PPT, etc. Why would I want a SaaS solution over hosted on my own servers product?

PowerPoint still reigns – If you are a course purist, the idea that PPT should be seen as an authoring tool should make you grumble with disgust. . Yes, you can use it for many different things, and yes, Microsoft has an add-on that turns PPT into something similar to Adobe Presenter. PowerPoint is presentation software.

The two main components are the server and the user interface. Think of the server as the computer hardware which allows the system to run. The Aviation Industry Computer-Based Training Committee (AICC) standard is an eLearning protocol. Currently, the AICC format is over 30 years old. Not so when the PPT is online.
