Threaded discussions. These might be proprietary systems like Jive , Podio , Yammer , Socialcast , or open source software, like WordPress / Buddypress or Elgg. Member profiling. Activity streams. Real-time updates. Notifications. Group spaces. File sharing areas. Content co-creation tools.
The analytics told me that over 40% of the users are Active Users (a term Jive uses to describe all users who log in to consume content without necessarily interacting with the content in any manner). No one can see the engrossed look on my face when I read discussion threads in the Learning and Skills group.
An enterprise that has adopted a social business platform and is trying to shape a path for a conversation-based reality, content creation and consumption, and communication via the platform will see a proliferation of content that could range from sales decks to discussion threads on the appropriate technology stack to use on a specific project.
Does this indicate that that Brandon Hall Network is not going to be the central hub for them to have discussions? How does blogging jive with paid research? I previously predicted that in its currently form the network wouldn't really work. But creating a closed model is very hard, especially when you are a paid-research firm.
I also like to make occasional visits to Google Labs and Adobe Labs to "keep up" with the tech tools they are working on and to test drive any beta versions available.
This can be email, but increasingly we’re seeing dedicated shared tools being supported, like Slack, that support creating groups, and archive discussions and files. Certainly ongoing discussions are supported. Here we (should) see organization wide Enterprise Social Networks like Jive and Yammer, etc.
It was designed to be a small to medium size group discussion, but because the room was large it was very challenging to do that successfully. I discussed a bit of these issues in First Thoughts After ASTD Sessions. Provide thoughts around the content and the discussion. However, the discussion quickly lost steam.
They rightly complained about access (they can view captures of the sessions, but not participate), and I decided to host an afternoon Pacific time discussion. It may appear to be ‘hazy cosmic jive’ or too Californian, but I believe it’s meaningful. It’s been small but good.
Unless you are discussing company policy that is not open for discussion (and I would ask you, why in the world are you hosting a class?) – allow and embrace debate. If people aren’t wanting to debate, seed the discussion. Providing people with reasons to absorb content helps them to connect the dots.
We broke into groups to discuss: What’s the role of the CLO as learning shifts from push to pull? My breakout group discussed: This is way too much to figure out in a 45-minute breakout session. Connect the enterprise with a technology like Jive. What capabilities does the 21st century training department need?
Community and collaboration Working alongside the new blended learning offering sits a powerful community, collaboration and social media platform called Bupa Live, which is based on Jive SBS software. Starting from a small pilot of around 1000 employees, usage grew virally and currently some 10,000 employees are users.
There are also social implications for machine learning in the workplace, said John Schneider, vice president of product marketing for Jive Software. When users rate a course, or participate in an online discussion about a topic, machine learning tools can capture and learn from those interactions.

Expectations are set through act and communication, and you don't get to count your inner thoughts and intentions as expectations if your actions and verbal discussions don't jive with them. Almost always I respond, "He/She is meeting your expectations."
Switching among learning modes such as reading, video, reflection and discussion reduces the perception of drudgery. Junior employees may struggle because their time and screens are not their own or because discussion boards are interpreted as “wasting time” in settings where employees feel like they’re on the clock.

There’s a topic you’re passionate about, and the traditional 9-5 schedule of classes or workshops simply doesn’t jive with your rhythm. The opportunity to speak one-on-one with so many industry luminaries is easily the best part of my job given the lively debates that often flow from these discussions. It was this last point where our discussion got quite animated. which kicked this discussion into high gear. in light of social media.
Leading social media vendors like Jive Software are integrating with the top ECM platforms to provide unified search, workflow, and storage of enterprise and social content, proving a cohesive environment where formal content is supported by an ecosystem of users that contribute expertise and relevant information. We are seeing this today.
