One vendor already offers it in 2012, and knowing this industry – if something takes off and works, others will follow. Listen you love flash. In 2012, I’ve seen a slow uptake with tools that can output to HTML5. Granted it is just at a base level, but expect more capabilities and power with HTML5.

You work online via the servers of your vendor. I had thought that this trend would be dying out, but it is amazing at the number of vendors who are entering the space and still focused on the desktop approach. Vendors who are already in the SaaS only space, should continue to offer features that maximize its power.

There is a growing list of vendors, including small/mid size that are adding talent management components that match the Big Dog systems. A couple of vendors have added HRIS modules. It is interesting to note, that many of the vendors are targeting the SMB space, especially the small size (less than 500 employees) market.

I agree the technologies to create, deploy and manage HTML5-based mobile web apps will greatly improve in 2012 but I don't feel they will mature to the point they can replace all native apps – at least in most of the primary enterprise use cases for learning that’s managed and tracked. Numerous steps to view in HTML5. “Upload your content to a web server, you just give your learners a link to the story.htm file” – This is to view the course in HTML5 on your iPad. Flash – since my goal was to have the course visible on an iPad, I did not select this feature. Left Slide.
