MOOCs on various topics can be set up using blended content – some custom designed and some re-purposed from OERs and other available content from the net as long as one takes care to note the various IPR-related policies. MOOCs enable building of PLNs (Personal Learning Networks).

At a time when organizations were investing in formal, top downtraining programs, a vestige of the Industrial Era and Taylorist ideas of productivityimprovement, Cross, Marcia Conner and a few others were busy advocatinginformal learning, workscaping, the power of social tools and the importance ofbuilding one’s personal learning network.

When George Siemens , Dave Cormier and Stephen Downes came up with the concept in 2008, they had a vision of how a “learning design” based on Connectivism could change the face of learning and collaboration. The OER movement was the trigger for the MOOCs then. None of this is new information or insight.

Okay, three messages: Personalized learning for each learner. Video – video courses, Video Learning Platforms, HD video presenter devices – reminded me of a video suitcase – basically – Video was all the rage. But I did hear mention of OER via attendees and a couple of vendors. Pebble Pad.
