However, with the continued explosion of tablets which will offer Flash & HTML5, the market dedicates that HTML5 is necessary. I see double digit growth in Lite LMSs in 2011. Bonus Trend.

But, the reason I constantly bash this into e-learning vendors heads is they just DON’T GET IT. HTML5 will be available on every one of those tablets, plus they will offer Flash (notable exception the iPad). If you want to move onto a new experience with m-learning why not add functionality to an e-reader?

I include Learning Portals, LCMSs, as part of the mix. Open Source Systems – That have to be 100% free to be considered. Extended Enterprise – System must have e-comm, multi-tenet – fully skinnable, additional functionality. Open Source LMS of the Year. Social Learning is limited.

I have seen continued interest and downloads for open source AR tool kits. GestureTek develops motion control for tablets, e-readers, smartphones and televisions. Expect a few commercial vendors to jump into the augmented reality space for e-learning. HTML5 support – sorry Flash fans .

Equally of interest, are the increase in open source systems that offer for a fee, hosting on their own servers, rather than on yours. Some vendors push heavily on PPT, implying that a great WBT is really a PPT converted to Flash. Flash output – still red hot. Flash isn’t going anywhere, except maybe the route of leaded gasoline. Here is a news flash: It’s not true. A couple of vendors are offering this as a feature.

Pearson not letting people know about their open source LMS that is in the works – you had to specifically ask them. Its all in Flash. Thus in order for it to work on the iPad series or iOS mobile devices you need to have the SkyFire app or something similar which can run flash on your device. If not, demand one.
