It comes from me talking to vendors, buyers, monitoring the industry all the while taking notes and seeing the trends/patterns appear right before my eyes. Web site stinks = product stinks. What has always amazed me are number of e-learning vendor web sites whose design looks like it came from 1995 when Netscape ruled the land.

Are there vendors in the e-learning space who lack basic understanding around e-learning? Lastly, if the vendors, organizations and firms whose whole background, expertise and existence is tied to e-learning and they themselves are not fully understanding it, does this bode well for the industry as a whole?

Emerging technology that has I believe the potential to do wonders in the e-learning space. There are sites dedicated specifically for Kinect technology and education. As a result, I went out, ordered and received the Leap Motion product, which is a touch free device for your computer. 3D motion capability.

Sure, they can do it, but how effective will they be compared to someone who has previous sales experience, especially in the LMS or e-learning space? Offer on site or at their location. I’ve attended some training sessions with e-learning vendors and it can range from wonderful to absolute garbage.

A common argument I’m hearing from vendors on why they do not offer a social learning component in their system. &# “Companies are blocking social media access at their site and/or have social media governance policies&#. Majority of employees access social media sites out of the workplace. E-Learning 24/7.

Yeah and did I mention it was free and you can get the code, ideal if you are building courses for someone other than your own company? API capability, so courses can be deployed into social media sites that accept APIs, Facebook is one, there are others out there. In social networking alone, over 385 sites. Game Changer!

Unfortunately, too many vendors in the e-learning space have failed to see the power and potential of this capability, and have decided to ignore them. Typically APIs are free. However there are vendors who sell their API solution wrapped in a piece of software. LMS Vendors. API Protocols.
