If you are on a Mac, you’ll find your installed version of Captivate under Applications. In the Publish dialog, select the SWF/HTML5 tab (top left). Then set the output format to HTML5 (you can turn off SWF.) Open the presentation that you want to convert into an eLearning course. Import the presentation in Captivate.

Have you ever visited the Preferences dialog box in Adobe Captivate (Windows users, Edit > Preferences ; Mac users,  Adobe Captivate > Preferences ), made several changes and later, maybe months later, needed those settings on another computer running Captivate? In the SWF Size and Quality area, I set the quality to Medium.

To produce the slides and SWF, I used Keynote 08 ( not Keynote 09! ). Keynote is a slide editor for the Mac. Then I tested the interaction by following each branch of the flowchart, marking the path with a crayon so I could see at a glance which paths had been checked.

If the learner is going to access the lesson over the internet (either from a web server or an LMS), publishing SWF and/or HTML5 is the way to go. If you decide to publish a SWF, the learner will use a web browser to access the lesson. Just remember that neither SWF nor HTML5 are good standalone options.
