I don’t need the PowerPoint master slides, just the background image. Importing that PowerPoint background into my Captivate master slide applies the background to my title, content, quizzing, and all the other slides in the master slide series. PowerPoint will ask which slides you want to export.

Most them work perfectly in one of two aspect ratios: 1:1 (square). Understanding PowerPoint Slides. Because of this, I build my simple graphics in PowerPoint and save the slides as images. In PowerPoint, we need to do two things: set slide size and then whatever we build we export as an image. 16:9 (rectangle).

I also want the window to be 4:3 aspect ratio. So I need to figure out what the proper dimensions are for a 4:3 aspect ratio that is 1096 pixels wide. Calculate the 4:3 aspect ratio using the 1096 width. I use the aspect ratio calculator. A 4:3 aspect ratio starting with 1096 is going to be 1096×822.

In PowerPoint, add a shape to the slide. Open the selection pane to see a layered view of the objects on the slide. If you hold SHIFT and then click and drag from the corner, the image will scale up or down without changing its aspect ratio. Or you can treat your entire slide as your image. Group the shape and picture.

Click the Design tab, then click Slide Size > Custom Slide Size (or click Page Setup in older versions of PowerPoint). Now you can place a photo or draw a diagram, and when you export the slide, PowerPoint will export it to the exact size you need for your course. Export your PowerPoint “slide” an image.
