Monday, June 25, 2007 Getting Pysched for FaceBook Im definitely feeling out-of-my element in this whole FaceBook thing. Im trying to get into it and discover its potential professional uses. Im just scratching the surface, I suppose. Im feeling lonely and really nerdy. Id like to push this somehow, but Im not sure.
So, what do I do if Im not doing that? Im not such an anal person, so this isnt my favorite thing in the world. I learn what technologies are being pushed, what people are embracing. And Im really excited about the project Im working on. I think a lot about instructional design, but I dont really practice it.

Christy has been writing about how to get started in instructional design and what technology tools you might need. I think Im somewhat of an anomaly in the field. Maybe Im not an instructional designer at all. The course was strongly based around design theory and use/understanding of technology. I dont build courses.
And Im not implying that Im a Second Life naysayer. It takes brains and a bit of technological savvy to figure out what route to follow for any individual situation — something many corporations seem to lack when it comes to new media. As you may know, Ive only been there once. And thoughtful experimentation must continue.
Im concerned that women will be excluded if such a focus is put on gaming skills -- or at least the gamer label. Im just raising some questions. I guess Im saying the focus should be less on "gaming" and more on use of new technology (social networking sites, gadgets, etc.) I dont have a conclusion here.
We use technology for storage. Then I realized Im a constant notetaker, in the pen-and-paper sense. Thats one way for me to process the information Im seeing/hearing, and the same may be true for at least some live bloggers. Its personal and personalized. Its mine and a corporation can never ever own it.or This is true.
My current business card says Im a "Manager of Instructional Design". My boss had an educational technology degree from Harvard. And now Im here -- "Manager of Instructional Design."
