This evening I attended a webinar by ADL: the new standard (project TinCan) kickoff. The ADL will launch it in June. The next step is the adoption of the standard by authoring tools and LMS. But this effect will be visible in 2013. Scorm is finally going to catch up with the current times.

The rise of mLearning has also driven adoption of the Tin Can xAPI eLearning content standard which can track far more learning activities than older standards like SCORM. One popular eLearning podcast is hosted by Connie Malamed and started in 2013. Synchronous learning: Instructor-led learning in a virtual classroom setting.

ADL (Advanced Distributed Learning). Often contrasted with the ADDIE process, the Agile design method emerged in the 1970s and became widely adopted in the 1990s. It’s essentially a set of rules for xAPI which narrows the overly wide specification to increase adoption in the industry. Agile Learning. EE (Extended Enterprise).

This standard is being developed by Rustici Software (with a world-wide active community participating and contributing) for Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) – the keepers of SCORM. Tin Can API’ was the code name for the API project, which got widely adopted by the community. Published on 14-Oct-2013.

After xAPI was released in 2013, it was hard for government organizations to purchase modern products as xAPI was not supported by the existing Instruction and there was no way to verify if an xAPI solution conformed to the specification. In 2015, we at Rustici were awarded a BAA from ADL to help them revise the 2006 DoDI 1322.26.
