We received the following distress email a few days ago:   I am using your workbook ( Adobe Captivate 2017: The Essentials ) and I'm in Module 11: Working with PowerPoint. Captivate only uses the wav and mp3 file format. How do I get the audio in PowerPoint to work in Captivate?

You can add audio to your Adobe Captivate project either by recording yours or somebody else’s voice directly or by inserting a previously recorded audio file (.AVI,WAV). When you publish the project, Adobe Captivate embeds the audio within the output file. Why does this issue occur? Is there a workaround?

To work around it, I used Adobe Soundbooth CS4 to record the narration. WAV file, but Captivate would not load it into the slide. Captivate imported the new format without any problems. WAV file was 687 MB, while the *.MP3 I first tried saving the narration as a *.WAV In addition, the *.WAV

I am trying to import a MP3 audio file into a simulation presentation in Captivate (however it keeps reporting the following error ‘Unable to import audio file ensure that file type is MP3 or WAV and also ensure that the file is not damaged’. I have checked the audio file and it works and it is already in MP3 format – help please.

If you import audio, you choose best for the uncompressed WAV-format over MP3. Only wav files can be edited. If you want to edit an imported MP3-file, Captivate has to expand that file to create a WAV file. You will see 2 files with different format in the LibraryAudio folder in that case.

Following the recording session, segments of audio are exported from Audition as WAV files with the slide number in the filename. Then I prompt my talent to be sure they are ready, I begin the recording and ask them to begin reading. Post Capture. As the segments are saved, notes were made on a copy of the narration script with the filenames.

These are the default Library folders: Audio : will have all audio clips, whether imported or recorded in Captivate; whenever you edit an existing clip, the original and edit clip will be in this folder. If you import a (compressed)mp3 file it will automatically be converted to a ‘raw’ wav-file which will also be in this folder.

So I saved it to a WAV file, which was quite large, and then saved that as an MP3 file which worked quite well -- a small compact file plus it kept both tracks. So I pulled out the install discs and found it on disc 2/2 in the folder "English/Goodies/Adobe Captivate 4/Neospeech Text to Speech Voices/Captivate4-NeoSpeech.exe".
