I’m not saying that e-learningvendors who follow the “trial” and give us your credit card mantra are following this approach nor are they doing so in a nefarious way, I’m just giving you some insight in how companies that use this approach, see value in it. Just a guess here!
While I won’t be able to solve the issue, I will be writing an article in a few weeks, noting these issues, with the hope that the vendors in question work to solve them now, rather than later. Identify the problem, the vendor too. This will be part of the article.

They have to adapt, optimize for tablets for m-learning (more so than smartphones – a future blog article on why), social learning robust and not the “gerbil in the wheel mentaility&# , and add plug-ins that people will use to expand out their system. They have to innovate. LCMSs are dead.
