These were the two messages that stood out over three days in Sydney at the iDesignX Australian Instructional Design Conference (21st March) sponsored by B Online Learning and Articulate and the eLearning Design Workshops with Tom Kuhlmann and David Anderson (22nd and 23rd March).
Last week I presented at the iDesignX conference in Sydney. It was great day and it was wonderful to connect with some many other eLearning practitioners and meet the Articulate legends a.k.a Tom Kuhlmann and David Anderson. My presentation was called Personalising Learning through Conditional Interactivity.
At the recent DevLearn 2014 conference in Las Vegas, I attended a presentation on agile instructional design by Megan Torrance. During this presentation she discussed agile instructional design models such as SAM (Successive Approximation Model) and LLAMA (Lot Like Agile Methods Approach).
Today you have plenty of options when it comes to developing eLearning, including Camtasia, Captivate, Storyline, and two Presenters (one from Adobe, the other from Articulate). In fact, at a recent conference I met a person who said she started developing eLearning 30 years ago. 30 years ago? Wait, wouldn't that be the 1980s?

He came to speak to us when I was at Adobe during one of our annual sales and marketing conferences and wow, was I blown away, not only is he sharp and funny but the visuals he uses in his presentation leave you wanting more. One of the best presentations I have ever witnessed in person was delivered by Seth Godin. Amen to that.

Two months ago, I wrote about the L&D Conference we were designing. So here are some thoughts on the conference outcomes. We also were looking not just to replicate what you get at typical face-to-face conferences (which we like as well), but to do something unique to the medium and our audience.
So the buzz last week at the e-Learning Guild's Learning Solutions Conference in Orlando was all about Articulate Storyline. Rumor has it that Storyline will include some great features like a screen capturing tool!

But, that’s about to change now that some of the top-used presenter and eLearning authoring tools (such as Microsoft PowerPoint and Articulate Storyline) support vector files and retain their qualities.
In the course of the past month, I’ve attended (and spoken at) 4 conferences: DevLearn, WCET, VSS, and Online Educa. Similarly, vendors would tout buzzwords that, when pressed, couldn’t actually articulate what it was. As a consequence, I’ve had a somewhat biased (mostly US) but reasonably broad exposure to the state of the industry.
We dipped our toes back into the world of in-person conference activities. My last large conference was Dev Learn in Vegas in October 2019. Back in the Olden Times, I used to live blog every conference session I attended. The Guild usually hosts a webinar event post-conference where all the winners show off their solutions.
I’m really excited about the Articulate User Conference this year. The conference includes five tracks covering 25 topics. Each session will include all sorts of resources, downloads, and additional help so that when you get back you can lean into what you learned at the conference. Articulate 360 Foundations.
The smells of Bourbon Street and the French Quarter perhaps a bit too strong – but the sights were amazing, the conference was intimate and inspiring, and the Louisiana gulf red fish (two nights in a row!) People are still warming back up to travel and in-person conferences. See y'all at the next conference!

The summer is always a busy season for industry conferences and eLearning networking opportunities, and one event near and dear to my heart is the Annual Conference on Distance Teaching & Learning held in Madison, Wisconsin. The 2014 conference is set for August 12th-14th at the Monona Terrace.

Captivate, Articulate, Lectora, and Camtasia are the big off-the-shelf authoring tools that seem to come up in a lot of job postings. I found blogging a welcome distraction, so much so that in addition to my annual list of e-learning conferences in Australia (which took a beating!) I hope you find my articulations helpful. That’s my jovial way to end a year that will be remembered as a tough one for a long time to come.

What a magnificent day it was on Friday the 27th May as B Online Learning kicked of its Insight Conference to celebrate its 10 year birthday! I wrote up my visit to the Intelligent Content conference for eLearnMag , but one topic I didn’t raise was an unanswered question I raised during the conference: should the ‘smarts’ be in the content or the system? Which is the best way to adapt? Now the obvious answer is the system.
I generally leave conferences both exhilarated and exhausted, and sitting on the flight home from three days in Chicago at the ASTD International Conference and Expo , I realize this one was no exception.
