My current business card says Im a "Manager of Instructional Design". Didnt make the transition to the web and got lost in the bubble. And now Im here -- "Manager of Instructional Design." For me, instructional design is about designing "engaging and effective" asynchronous learning experiences (web-based training programs). Im a writer and a schmoozer. In Instructional Designers Tools I talk a bit about that. Some instructional designers have advanced degrees in instructional design, but many dont.

Most LMS systems have ways to launch these kinds of reference systems (they are just a web page after all). There are a bunch of other standards by ADL (who is responsible for SCORM ), IMS , IEEE LTSC including CORDRAâ„¢ , LOM , Meta-data , etc. Note: ARIADNE, AICC, IEEE LTSC, and IMS all participate in ADL's work on SCORM).

Some important questions that remain unasked Are all communication channels being effectively used (especially important if communicating via Web and across different time-zones)? Can better use be made of tools and applications like Skype, AOL, Webinars, conference calls, video conferencing, Google docs, etc.? Who are the SMEs?

Our tools still require the user to work in the Flash environment, but you really dont need to know Flash. I think about this topic a lot.

Monday, March 23, 2009 Market Differences in eLearning Im a fan of the number 42. I know of companies who only hire instructional designers and buy Rapid elearning tools and expect the ID to do it all themselves to reduce the cost and over head of hiring graphic designers as well. But I know of few variable cases too: 1. Always do.
This go-round, Im at the other end of things: in a much-needed lull between projects, taking a breather. Heres what Ive been doing lately on the job: Tinkering Ive been tinkering around with new and old tools, expanding my skill set. Im not sure I buy how much real impact any of this will have on bottom line measures. or social learning or more specifically with using social tools to do things like have interesting conversations - what I want to measure is really not at all what is learned.
