I'm writing this post for both attendees of the session to have some notes and for people who were not at the session to hopefully get value from the discussion that happened there. The suggestion by one audience member about requiring blogging (or similar forms) of sharing prior to a formal learning event was great.
How User Generated Content Can Make its Way into Formal Learning: Integrate UGC into formal learning content management: Feedback from forums and content from blogs and/or wikis are examples of valuable information that can be pulled or linked into learning content repositories to provide a unified view of organizational and social content.

Devin really enjoyed fishing, and during his free time overseas he went back to his room and learned a lot about WordPress websites and explored online his passions around fishing, eventually writing a simple WordPress blog and getting some traffic via SEO and building his personal brand. I was like, well, I could write a book.
While I could write an entire blog post on the reasons for this, I think Clark Quinn summarizes it quite nicely: “As work becomes more complex and the level of information explodes, speed-to-competence will depend on an organizations ability to allow learners to support themselves by tapping into the knowledge of others.”
