Someone who grew up on Authorware and pretty much tore apart the first edition of Michael Allen's Guide to eLearning, the 2.0 version flashbacks of the author’s life bring back lots of memories… And by lots, of course, I mean 42. This post was first published on eLearning Industry.
Compared to building courses in Flash or Authorware, the rapid elearning tools are easy to use. His book, Guide to E-Learning , comes with a demo CD that has some really good examples in it. His book ‘Michael Allen’s guide to e-Learning’ will cover all the basics on eLearning for you but I can recommend reading all his other books on instructional design as well. He fights against boring and bad eLearning and does that in a very constructive way. He wrote a ton of books, all of them are classics and must reads.

New Slide – Create a new page, chapter, lesson, whatever, generally speaking Slide screams PPT and no offense to the person who has been doing ID for x number of years, if you said “slide” to someone working on Authorware back in the day, you would have gotten a head slap. The world of authoring tools started at the advanced level, Authorware, Toolbook and to an extent DazzlerMax. The problem though was that folks who had the authorware and so forth experience AND/OR folks who were ID and e-learning developers were stuck. Anyone who used Authorware can attest to that. I recommend it coming from one chapter if you are using a paper-based manual or guide as well, your materials for them to use. Anyway, joy was not there, because it required double the work. Authoring tools were limited options and each one was not easy to just pick up and start building.
