Video file size can be tricky and the concept of reducing video file size has many technical variables associated with it. You may want to reduce file size to more easily send to your co-workers, or complete your upload to YouTube quicker. Takeaway: Use the MP4 file type to keep quality and reduce file size.

To begin, TechSmith says that "larger videos (in resolution) will dramatically increase file size. Limit your video size to no larger than 1280 pixels (width) by 720 (height)." In fact, project (canvas) size and recording area size are two concepts that I cover early in my beginner Camtasia vILT class.

Constant Bitrates (CBRs) produce smaller file sizes. By contrast, Variable Bitrates (VBRs) tend to produce audio with a higher, more consistent quality level than CBRs but the VBR file sizes will be larger than CBRs. . When teaching my students how to publish Articulate Storyline projects during my beginner class , I often get the following question: Student: “How do I publish my project as a video (MP4)?”. If video size is not a factor, you can go as high as full 1080p HD for nice quality. by Kal Hadi, COTP. Me: “You can’t.”.
