I went looking for a learningstyle test for an online course. I thought a learningstyle test was a nice ramp up for an exercise where people had to blog about their own facilitator style - from the idea that it is good to know your own preferences and biases as a trainer/facilitator.
I took a course on learningstyles a few years ago. The instructor pointed out that training practitioners tend to design instruction that caters to their own dominant learningstyles. Learningstyles have to do with how people perceive and process new information. Learning Modality + Definition.

There's been a lot of discussion around cognitive theory and "how the brainlearns." But even with all of that discussion there's a question of whether people are really making changes to the design of their online learning. So the July Question is: Does the discussion of "how the brainlearns" impact your eLearning design?
I’ve recently been reading quite a few articles, tweets and blog posts about whether learningstyles exist. Both sides are blogging, tweeting and retweeting in defense of their positions. If believing in the presence of diverse learningstyles makes you a better designer and learning facilitator–great!
At the same time, this dark foreboding in their brain tells them that something will inevitably go wrong. Your brain, magic and survival. Others may prove to be false, like the charming learningstyles myth that beguiled many in the learning profession until it was debunked by modern science.
From the CFT vantage, multiple representations is not about providing the same information in a different format (the learningstyles approach), but rather presenting different perspectives on that information.
