An eLearning content authoring tool is a software package which content developers use to create and package eLearning course content using SCORM or xAPI standards.
The result is a new specification called the Experience API (xAPI) that enables interoperability to overcome the barriers between people, activity, and systems. Moreover, xAPI will allow systems to work in concert to support employee movement along the continuum from learning to performance and to build higher levels of accomplishment.
Designing a learning measurement strategy with xAPI takes time and planning, but do you know where to start? Using xAPI — and associated measures and analyses—right has a big impact. Using xAPI — and associated measures and analyses—right has a big impact.
I recently had a conversation with Mike Rustici, who was part of the development of xAPI and sits at the helm of Watershed LRS. So here is the question: Will xAPI change learning from being an art to science in the same way that digital marketing did for the ad agencies? I contend that xAPI will change learning in a few key ways.
Whilst, a significant percentage of what CLO calls ‘learning mature’ organizations are using tools to integrate data from multiple sources, their focus falls to formal ROI. Within that same time frame, CLO’s research indicates that almost 70% of participants expect to increase their analytics capabilities.
The statistics from CLO Magazine may seem surprising, as many learning managers kicked off mobile learning deployment with soft skills, leadership, and business skills training. The new CMI-5 standard with xAPI allows us to launch and track content without necessarily using an LMS. We know that most learning happens informally.
Technologies like xAPI and learning record stores are making learning data easier to access than ever before. xAPI is removing the constraints of SCORM-based legacy learning ecosystems and allowing incorporation of these new tools into organizations.
