In the course of the conversation it occurred to me that given the model we propose, that you can’t just have the broader social network create it, and you can’t even really build a community of practice (CoP). The smallest unit is the working group; how could we use that? Yet I’ll suggest that it is doable.
In terms of supporting the moocers in the organisation, I envisage L&D pro’s undertaking activities such as facilitating communities of practice, setting up buddy programs, and organising external meetups. MOOCs have the potential to give rise to Communities of Practices or enhance the learning within an already existing CoP. However, in either case they will learn in isolation, as individuals.
