Here are some terms that are getting more attention the first couple weeks this month (December 2008) include Social Media , eLearning Activity , Mobile Learning , Yugma , Slideshare , SharePoint , Twitter , 100 Conversations , Mzinga , and GeoLearning.
We are connected educators, linked in to a number of powerful global communities of practice, and we have access to resources, dialogue and audiences we would not enjoy in a traditional learning and teaching role. But what tools do we use to enable us to connect with these communities, resources, audiences around the globe?
Today I am presenting at Immaculata University on the topic of Creating a Vibrant Learning Community as part of a faculty workshop. A vast array of user generated content, much of it very useful, is available for free use on numerous sites, including YouTube, Flickr, Vimeo and Slideshare. This is Plateau’s social learning component, and it reminds me of a cross between a COP (Community of Practice) with some social learning functionality. Talent Gateway. Another add-on module. Not required as part of the system. Why people still think a COP is of value is beyond me. Kodak was the king kong of film and cameras.
