I am again liveblogging during the Technology, Colleges, and Community (TCC) 2008 conference. Using a common language helps to build a learning community. I had no idea–this was totally new to me. Important to create a learning environment where everyone can feel comfortable with the diversity they bring to the community.
As many have noted, it’s about moving from a notion of being a builder, handcrafting (or mass-producing) solutions, to being a facilitator, nurturing the community to develop it’s own capabilities. They may need discussion forums, blogs, wikis, and IM. They may need to load, tag, and search on resources.

Monday, September 17, 2007 31 Days: Days 26, 27, 28 Im cleaning house and trying to to finish up with the 31 Days to Building a Better Blog Challenge. Im concerned that women will be excluded if such a focus is put on gaming skills -- or at least the gamer label. Dona was an early Atari employee (and the only woman at the time) and spoke about women in the gaming industry and provided some specific ideas for getting girls and women more involved in games and gaming. than Gamer 4.0.

Tuesday, June 12, 2007 My Personalized Personal Work Learning Environmental World Tony Karrer asked in the comments on my PLE post yesterday , Im curious if you distinguish your learning environment (tools, skills, etc.) Most of what Im doing outside of work these days involves the care and feeding of two small people, ages 2 and 4.
So Im going to try to mix it up a bit. Im still smiling. But Im wearing a different purple shirt. I should also show you pictures of me where Im not smiling. Although Im professional, I do have many faces. Usually, Im the one with the camera. I do, indeed, often look like that. But thats just one view.

Im a linear reader in recovery and have been actively learning how to skim books and not feel guilty about it. I have been asked several times about ideas for injecting student-to-student interaction into distance courses when the enrolment numbers are likely to be low. I think that one of the factors that determines the satisfaction level of a student with a particular course is the community of learning that was present during the semester.
