I know of companies who only hire instructional designers and buy Rapid elearning tools and expect the ID to do it all themselves to reduce the cost and over head of hiring graphic designers as well. Templates are about keeping costs down, not standards up. If youre providing SMEs with the templates, Im not sure theyll be altering them. Im not saying there is no place for templates (honestly!), but lets at least acknowledge that they are about cost reduction and efficiency, not great learning design.
