At the recent DevLearn 2014 conference in Las Vegas, I attended a presentation on agile instructional design by Megan Torrance. During this presentation she discussed agile instructional design models such as SAM (Successive Approximation Model) and LLAMA (Lot Like Agile Methods Approach).
DevLearn was different this year. It was fully online, called the “DevLearn Digital Experience” (DDX). The After Hours Buzz sessions were DevLearn DDX version of the typical Morning Buzz sessions. Of course, I missed seeing folks in person. Even online, it was a great experience. A great conference experience.

This past week I was at the always great DevLearn conference, the biggest and arguably best yet. Of course, the Guild had a guide that grouped them, so you could drill down into the ones you wanted to see. Yet I attended keynotes and sessions, as well as presenting, and hobnobbed with folks both familiar and new.

While this course is connected with the UC-Irvine Elearning Instructional Design certificate program, you don’t have to be enrolled or have taken any other courses in that program to participate in this portfolio course.
I''m excited to be presenting again at the DevLearn conference this fall. This results in lengthy courses that are counter to the needs of today’s learners who need to be extremely efficient with their time. First, identify appropriate learning objectives and exclude the extraneous objectives trying to sneak into the course.
I showed how you can create individual learning paths within an e-Learning course, he explained how they make it possible to create individual learning paths between courses. I told how frustrated I got when I was creating e-learning courses. You work from learning objectives and design a course based on that.
One of the most interesting topics at DevLearn was ‘Curation’ and the question attached to it was: “Will e-Learning (developers) become obsolete?” I do believe that E-Learning courses will become a bigger part of the formal learning that is offered to the learners. We’re back and recovered from our week in Vegas attending DevLearn 2022. The expo floor is a great opportunity to catch up with our existing customers who are also DevLearn exhibitors and use our software behind the scenes in their learning products. Excited to be headed to DevLearn with a group of 9 students from our graduate program. It is so much fun to bring people new to the field to the DevLearn Conference. Our students have created some awesome courses and are eager to demonstrate them to show what they can do!! We are excited to be part of a large event.
The root of the problem is of course the lack of presenting skills from the presenter, but PowerPoint doesn’t really help. I used Prezi for the presentations I gave at DevLearn, it was my first experience with it and I liked it a lot. And now I found Prezi. If you are not familiar with Prezi you should take a look at some examples.
Course already exists – conversion doesn’t require analysis, right? what do learners expect to do after completing the course that they can’t do now? Often the learner’s highest level goal is to get through this course quickly! SMES view analysis as a content dump and not a dialog. documentation of content does not equal design.
