Despite overall consumer demand (not just within e-learning) for tablets, and numbers showing that tablets are outselling notebooks, e-learningvendors as whole are sitting back and waiting. APIs of various social sites with Linkedin growing at a quick pace. Frankly a few deserve coal in their stockings.
You may also be concerned about the real-time experience of the vendor in corporate training. Solution: To know the expertise of your vendor, check the qualification and communication level of their team. Nowadays, you can get this information via LinkedIn and other professional networking sites.
On the expo side, and I know ASTD Events are going to disagree with me (err, they already have via Linkedin), I wasn’t overly impressed on the number of vendors’ booths. E-Learning 24/7 . Tagged: ASTD , ASTDTK14 , e-learningvendors. But overall, feedback was a plus. to exhibit at.
And, let us clear up another point: social learning is not just social networking. I hate when people see it as only Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin. Lastly, if the vendors, organizations and firms whose whole background, expertise and existence is tied to e-learning and they themselves are not fully understanding it, does this bode well for the industry as a whole? (I’ll E-Learning is E-Learning and not some magical dust. E-Learning 24/7.
Look at the e-learning market and ask yourself, if the consumer market as a whole is using this, why wouldn’t vendors in our space follow suit? 21% reported they do not have a learning platform as this time. Read about, learned about your solution OR. Asked questions or inquires on LinkedIn OR. What you get at the beginning, is the “let me tell you about us” The problem with this approach. The consumer most likely has checked out your web site OR. Talked to colleagues OR. Has done some basic research.
We can go to Linkedin and talk about it. Most people don’t. It is not part of the “acceptable&# thing to do. Rather, we just walk away. Well, we no longer have to walk away. We can Tweet about it. We can visit their social media sites and post about it. We have a voice. Now, is the time to start using it.
Maybe send link to Linkedin or Twitter or Facebook or whatever. Even weirder is that it says “chat now” and that is the only option. What if I don’t want to chat now? Personally, dump this feature and offer some social media components right there on the screen. Again, with over 2,400 social media sites you can go beyond.
That said, the degree with which some of our past predictions came to pass proved quite varied whereas some truths were validated akin to a “base hit” in the game of baseball whereas others were “doubles” or “triples” and even a “home run” and “strikeout” or two!
Folding up shop and switching to a new market: Talent/Performance Management, new product lines not tied to e-learning, services. Acquiring another LMS or e-learningvendor. Outside of the industry purchasing vendors in the space. Oh, Linkedin has an API. . Because, they won’t.
