Global collaboration can be very small; can just be one teacher and one class with blogs or Skype. With blogs, move students from passive lurking on a class blog –> blog comments first. Examples: student blogging project , 10 weeks with a challenge to push students more each week. Connect = Elluminate.
When I liveblogged the TCC 2008 conference , I always had the Elluminate presentation up on my primary screen (my desktop computer) and my blog on my laptop. Synergy lets me easily switch focus back to the Elluminate screen to join the backchannel chat or answer a poll; you just move your mouse over to the other screen and type away.

No access to Elluminate. Chat messaging on Elluminate was working OK, but not the best medium for presenting a live talk. Morse code would have worked if I knew how to read/write it (and if the audience knew it too). I lost Elluminate completely (again). I came in two hours early, tested out the system. Maybe semaphore?

If you really want to engage me I need to know the context of who you are (at least as expressed through your writings).
