They often use slick video to show a concept while a voice-over explains everything, so the learners only role is to passively absorb. Im not saying to leave the info a mystery; Im saying that Ive seen a lot of elearning that seems to underestimate the intelligence of the learner and makes every little thing painfully explicit.

For me it is unacceptable that eLearning organization create courses that they do not have voice. Some people will say that not all computers have speakers or that the voice is annoying. Nevertheless, their voices are deeply etched in my brain, and I could have picked any of them out of a lineup if we were going by voice and not visual. If I notice Im losing someones attention in class, Ill instantly make direct eye-contact, maybe raise an eyebrow, and start talking directly to that student, and most of the time.

Im not sure if the SME was reading a script, reading the notes, or just speaking from the heart. With Speech-Over's text-to-speech engine, expert content can be read in as text, which is then spoken in the course by an "expert" TTS voice. In this economy it is hard to justify professional voices, actors, etc.
