For instance, the languages for native app development differ based on OS, iOS uses Objective C, while RIM and Android both use Java, but different SDKs of that! Or for that matter the media supported by browsers is different. 264 formats.

And in a comment, I mentioned that the recent launch of the new Firefox browser was prompting me to switch. I had used Safari over Chrome because I trust Apple a wee bit more, and Firefox was a bit slow. All this changed with the release of Firefox’s new Quantum browser. Still, I wasn’t happy. Many times a day.

Now you know, I love me some Firefox - especially Firefox 3. Hard for me to weigh in on the if FF3 is actually better at memory use since I usually keep so many tabs open but everything else about it is rocking. One of the main reasons I like FF over IE are the extensions.
