But using a storage as a service model with these large assets outside the firewall doesn't make much sense in that there's also often a restriction on network traffic. Oh, and let's not forget that a lot of companies are Using Sharepoint for the exact purpose of organizing the efforts and assets of learning development.
Many are using Microsoft SharePoint, which includes discussion threads, wikis, and blogs, or using other similar collaboration tools. Check with your IT department to see what tools and guidelines may already be available to you for collaboration within your firewall.
But if you want to keep the materials as close to the workflow as possible, then other tools are available for in-house, behind-the-firewall, enterprise use. A number of organisations have already recognised that the value of employee-generated content far outweighs any potential concerns.

A few years ago we started using SharePoint and now we are SharePoint junkies. The problem is that our SharePoint intranet has grown so immensely that it is now difficult to find information you need in a pinch. The problem is that we will not be upgrading to SharePoint until the end 0f 08 and we can't afford to wait that long.
