I was recently asked what video format to use and particularly about the differences between the Flash Video Format (FLV) and Windows Media - WMV Format. In The Rise of Flash Video - Tom Green tells us: This is not to say QuickTime and Windows Media are dead technologies.
KeepVid offered both (save as FLV and save as MP4) and a nice bookmarklet as well. To get it in Flash Video Format / FLV - you can use the little tool provided by TechCrunch. Vixy allows conversion to other formats (AVI, WMV, Quicktime). I've not tried it, but it appears to work for Google Video, MySpace video and more.
Other common video file types include: MOV (Apple Quicktime Movie).AVI FLV (Flash Video Format). To help you not worry too much about file size, we’ve created Camtasia and Snagit video outputs to default to the MP4 file type, and will recommend MP4 in the majority of cases for online sharing. And many more!
MOV (QuickTime Movie) stores high-quality video, audio, and effects. FLV, F4V, and SWF are flash video formats designed for Flash Player, but they’re commonly used to stream video on YouTube. It is often used to store video and audio, but can be used to store other data like subtitles and still images.
Video (Ctrl+Alt+V) formats include SWF, FLV, F4V, AVI, MP4, MOV, and 3GP. FLV: (FLASH LIVE VIDEO) FLV was once the preferred format for video streaming in mobiles, but now with the rise of HTML 5, the MP4 video format is being preferred. Video (ALT+N+V Individually) formats include SWF, FLV, AVI, WMV, MOV, MPEG, DV, and 3GP.
