The enterprise learning market witnessed another big consolidation event today as SumTotal Systems announced it acquired GeoLearning thus further positioning SumTotal as the largest platform provider for LMS and talent management solutions in the industry. Per Mindy B's request, here's my version of our future. Some will be the vendors you know today - SumTotal , GeoLearning , SAS , Oracle , etc. I can elaborate a little now. As to a longer focus on workflow learning, we have several members of the LCB Blog Squad who are very involved in such efforts. You asked who the vendors will be.
This version ($40/u/m) is geared towards the instructional designer/developer. SaaS product – but here’s the thing – if you want the course to be in your LMS – it can but it still sits on the ZZ server side and not in your system (should note that the LMS connectivity is available only in the $40/u version).
They offer a SaaS version, but that is fee based. They have a freebie version which has an appropriate number of feature sets, then they have paid versions for individual and organization. GeoLearning’s Maestro product is now called SumTotal Maestro. They are in no particular order. Blackboard. CV is a freebie. .
LMSs that went to a whole new level GeoLearning – had a version that, on the user side, enabled you to have, say, not just your logo behind a desk – it was 3D the UI version, but also the carpet (colors all matched yours – now that is white-label). Now is that effective?
This is the former GeoLearning Maestro solution, which is now listed as SumTotal Learning Maestro. They have built upon previous versions of Maestro to take this one to another level. Thankfully, at least IMO, ST has barely touched it – and left it to the former folks at Geo to take the reigns.
GeoLearning. There is a reason why devices such as the Xbox and soon to be released new version of the PlayStation, it is because consumers want it. The vendor? What happened? They soon ditched it and went to the more traditional ways of systems that everyone else was doing, which at that time was none of that. .
And in 2002, many more – I used Geolearning – it offered lots of informal options. Plus, what version of SCORM is it? I think informal/formal was designed and suited for ILT, not e-learning, because from the days of Corporate in 2000, you could do informal with your LMS. There were systems that offered it. What about xAPI?
In fact, each of the “Four Horsemen” who rule the enterprise – namely SumTotal , Saba , Plateau & Geolearning – gave it a go in some way although no one outside their immediate customers or PR agencies seemed to notice. or “Wait until you see the next version!”). but generally tepid on the delivery front (“Coming soon!”
They actually have two learning management systems, but for whatever reason, they are pitching their SharePoint version. SumTotal ruined IMO the GeoLearning LMS known as Maestro and will Skillsoft buying SumTotal, I wondered to myself whether this would be great or awful. ELEARNINGFORCE.
