LinkedIn , especially LinkedIn groups, is a source for many useful conversations and resources. Google Search is one of the first places I go when I need to learn something specific or am researching courses and clients. GoogleDocs is where I keep track of my time spent on projects , create quick drafts, and other tasks.

Monday, June 18, 2007 GoogleDocs I played around a bit with GoogleDocs this weekend. Well, I actually worked with GoogleDocs this weekend. Inspired by recent posts from Harold Jarche and another one today from Wild Apricot on using GoogleDocs in nonprofits (thanks to Michele Martin for the link).
I keep a very messy GoogleDoc with inspiration for posts. I have often turned email or social media questions into blog posts. After all, if I have already written a paragraph or two on LinkedIn, that’s a good start on a blog post. Collect inspiration. It can be a challenge to keep writing all the time.
The top tool for the 4 th year running is Twitter, with both YouTube (2 nd ) and GoogleDocs (aka Google Drive) (3 rd ) retaining their places for the 3 rd year in succession. Once again the list is dominated by free online social tools.
I use Google Scholar search, blog search, or other advanced options as needed. LinkedIn is increasingly a place I find useful conversations and resources, especially in the groups. 3 - GoogleDocs/Drive. So rather than passing around a number of Word documents and trying to collate the results manually, using a collaboration tool like GoogleDocs makes this an easy process. But there’s lots more you can do with GoogleDocs too. People often need to work collaboratively.
Socialnetworks are a big part of my learning, which means that Facebook and LinkedIn also play big roles. Facebook’s more personal, ie less about work, but I learn about many societal things there. And LinkedIn is a place for learning as well, professionally as opposed to personally.
I'm not sure how we will create these (GoogleDocs, Wiki, Mindmap, etc.). But, I really don't have time to create what I want to create. Are you willing to pitch in to help me create some interesting resources? I definitely will post them to my blog.

Tuesday, June 19, 2007 Using FaceBook Im trying to expand my horizons a bit these days and have been taking a closer look at a whole bunch of tools out there, including SecondLife and FaceBook. FaceBook seems like such a student-world application, and yet folks say more and more "grown-ups" are using it. But its a start.
Having your socialnetwork on tap on demand really augments your ability to work more effectively. Skype), Twitter or equivalent, Facebook and/or LinkedIn, GoogleDocs, etc, you really do need to get that experience going to really understand the opportunities. Business changes.

Wednesday, June 27, 2007 Facebook for the Enterprise Im still mucking around in Facebook, trying to get it. Found this article, via Alec Saunders : Facebook for the Enterprise = Facebook. Provides some real examples of how business-folk are using FB; compares Facebook (emotional attachment) to LinkedIn (static resume).

LinkedIn was shown as being used monthly or more by 68% which is higher than I would have expected. I personally get a lot of value out of LinkedIn , but I wonder if other people are getting that same value. Facebook use is higher than I would have thought. That's a surprise. Monday, June 25, 2007 Getting Pysched for FaceBook Im definitely feeling out-of-my element in this whole FaceBook thing. And Ive joined a group: FaceBook for Business in which Ive posted some questions, gotten some answers, and been asked to participate in a beta test for a FaceBook widget. I need a bigger collection.
Instead, I coordinate with one group with Slack, a couple others with Skype and email, and am using GoogleDocs and email with another. And we should be connecting with colleagues in other organizations, so we might be using society-provided platforms or leverage LinkedIn groups. From there we move up to the community level.

LinkedIn is the quickest option if you are not technical and don’t want to deal with setting anything up. First, it’s not on your business site, so you’re splitting your identity between your business website and your LinkedIn profile. If you do use LinkedIn, keep copies of all your content as a backup.
Social media platforms can also play a role in more informal, communal interaction. A dedicated Facebook group or a WhatsApp chat group can offer spaces for cohort members to connect on a more personal level, share motivational messages, or coordinate meet-ups in their local area, for those who may be nearby.
For some (inexplicable) reason, GoogleDocs does not. Creating a new Ning network is very easy and it gives you a lot of what you would want / need as a work team. I already mentioned that the fact that GoogleDocs does not support notification makes it more difficult to use as a solution.

If I were to start over, I could see using Google+ over Facebook or Twitter. Even if Google+ does have its advantages, it is only useful if the people you want to connect with are there. Everyone who uses Gmail, YouTube, GoogleDocs, or any of their other services already has a Google account. But, I don’t.
