While we may like to believe that directing and guiding our learners to new understanding is the most effective way to educate, the traditional Instructor-Led Training (ILT) model fails to recognize that our learners have changed. So how do we best provide our learners of today with the best possible support and encouragement?
Even with the help of the newest technology tools to communicate and educate including social media, wikis, and Google, we still need to transform our ILT classrooms and training sessions into integrated blended learning environments. To our learners, this is their reality. So how do you keep it real? Introduce your information slowly.
This word means the methods and practice of teaching adult learners. ILT- Instructor led training or traditional classroom training or instruction. JITT- Just in Time Training refers to delivering information or training the learner needs when and where they need it. In short, Andragogy is another way to say adult education.
Keep in mind, we were talking about 44 hours of learner time – developed in both instructor-led and eLearning formats). After much wrangling, we came up with a number that knocked our client off his chair. Without getting too specific, it was over $500,000. Jim: Glad you found the post helpful, Jeff! Properly d. Some companies will use “Level 2: Learning” to measure whether the learners have mastered the training course content. McGoldrick described an approach to evaluating training that wasn’t just about changes in learner behavior but about learners integrated with and interacting within their own workplace. But it wasn’t.
It makes a big difference to your design if the on-demand content will be needed while the learner sits at their computer or while they perform a requalification inspection on a propane cylinder on a loading dock. There is no central network the learners can access. That’s where “party boxes&# might come in.
We are moving, albeit in fits and starts, from traditional learning environments, where curriculum are essentially assigned to learners, to more collaborative and innovative environments where learners can self-direct their learning and participate in communities of passion. Just as water will always find its own level by the path of least resistance, individual learners, working in collaboration and unhampered by the precepts of authority, tend to do an excellent job of finding and sharing what they need to know efficiently and effectively, even if they don’t necessarily know what they are looking for to begin with.
The gist of it was that even though we have an enormous amount of tools available to enable social learning across far reaching boundaries, the self-study type of eLearning seen in so many workplaces today can potentially cut learners off from any type of social interaction during the course of the learning. Properly d.
It’s hard to overstate the importance of learner engagement when teaching complex new material, and in this case the $2 whiteboard is far more effective at gaining that engagement. He contrasts two teaching methods that involve different kinds of whiteboards: one that costs $2,000, and one that costs $2. Properly d. Properly d.
There are whiteboard apps you can add for synchronous learning. I’m not saying it’s the end-all, be-all for LMS but it may just engage a few more learners that would normally have shut the training, or their brains, off. Facebook allows you to create a dynamic environment within its Fan Page infrastructure. You can stream live video.

At first I couldn’t think whether I actually applied how training was delivered to these different types of learners. Again there was a group for each type of learner. I started thinking about this during a program on Accelerated Learning at the Minnesota Chapter of the International Society of Performance Improvement (MNISPI).
The eLearning modules act as the “lecture”, which learners do on their own time. The now-common blended learning practice of assigning one or more eLearning modules prior to attending classroom training is similar to the Khan/schoolteacher model. Jim: Glad you found the post helpful, Jeff! Properly d. Properly d.
The learner must adapt to how the material is presented, rather than adapting the way the material is presented to each learner. What if we could customize training programs for each learner using adaptive software technology? The former is expected, the latter is currently a daunting prospect in most learning situations.
There are many elements of games and simulations that, when designed effectively, can help our learners achieve a state of flow: rich back stories and characters, compelling plotlines, and that delicate balance between something that is difficult, yet still achievable. Rieber and Play Theory. Jim: Glad you found the post helpful, Jeff!

Mobile learning should be a fast, easy user experience where learners can access a “robust library of content” and communicate with others. They are the epitome of a just-in-time device. So why not utilize these JIT devices for the JIT learning that we now demand as a society? Jim: Glad you found the post helpful, Jeff! Properly d.

Substantial disparities exist between these two instructional approaches, particularly concerning the integration of technology, learner engagement strategies, and multitasking requirements. VILT embodies a remarkably engaging and efficient training methodology grounded in synchronous learning. Start by Defining the Project Scope.
There’s the tried-and-true in-person instructor-led training (ILT). In this article, we’ll provide clear definitions of ILT and its digital cousins, and we’ll note important considerations for building a program anchored in each solution. Instead, you might call something like ILT a gift from the get-go. .
When it comes to eLearning, accessibility for all learners is crucial. Learners who suffer from sensory, intellectual or technological difficulties will need assistive technology to successfully access and complete their training courses. Active learning is a strategy focused on encouraging learners to actively participate in training.
And with employees back on-site, even if part-time, some learning and development teams may be wondering if they can conduct in-person instructor-led training (ILT). . Indeed, the budget-friendly option for some might be to let trainers and facilitators get in front of learners and lead a session. What Is ILT?
I utilized my scenario based learning approach into each course, because adult learners are seeking content that applies to them, that focuses on the real world with real world applications, not theory. I focused on what makes WBT tick, what is the differences between WBT and ILT. They all were used to the ILT approach.
If you have designed and administered successful in-person, Instructor-Led Training (ILT) modules, you may want to convert those classes into online courses to reach a wider audience. There’s more to creating a successful online course than a literal point-by-point conversion of what works in an ILT lesson plan. Not so fast!
Traditionally, it has been done through classroom-based, Instructor-led training (ILT) sessions which efficiently met relevant learning objectives. ILT will work best if it is part of a blended learning program that supplements ILT with eLearning, making it a more cost-effective, and hence, justified proposition.
ILT, eLearning, and virtual classrooms, oh my! . But, if you’ve had to choose between eLearning or instructor-led training (ILT), you’ve probably felt overwhelmed, just like Dorothy did while traveling the Yellow Brick Road. You can offer downloadable eLearning , so learners can access it offline. What Is ILT?
Since then, with the advent of the elite academia into the MOOC world, and platforms like EdX, Coursera and Udacity , we have seen a surge in what has come to be known as xMOOCs—the online, semi-synchronous version of classroom lectures and face-to-face group discussions. This should ideally be left up to the learner to decide.
A flexible approach allowing learners to access online course content at a time that suits them. Equipment, software, or a device which enables learners with disabilities to access eLearning and other content. A digital image to represent the user or learner in computer games and other online learning platforms. A Accessibility.
Ready to learn more about synchronous learning? Let’s dive into what synchronous learning is, how it differs from asynchronous learning , and its benefits and disadvantages. . What Is Synchronous Learning? Asynchronous vs. Synchronous Learning. Advantages Of Synchronous Learning.
They can be “semi-synchronous”: MOOCs can have a blend of modalities from videos and podcasts to reference links to blogs and articles, excerpts from books, whitepapers and so on. This semi-synchronous aspect make MOOCs appealing and effective for a wide range of topics and audience base. Why should an organization go the MOOC way?
With a manifold increase on Virtual Training in the last few months, the focus shifts towards the approaches to increase remote learner engagement. In this article, I share 15 tips to help you achieve a high remote learner engagement quotient. This journey could feature: ILT to Virtual ILT (VILT). Background.
Is eLearning effective , and does it provide an edge over Instructor-Led Training (ILT)? ILT, at its core, is exactly what it sounds like—a learning experience where trainers deliver learning in-person or virtually. We call the latter “ synchronous eLearning ” or “Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT).” Is eLearning effective?
Data Silos Since training and eLearning data are stored in separate systems, it becomes harder to track and analyze learner progress across different types of training. Poor User Experience Learners may experience confusion or frustration when they need to switch between different platforms for different training types.
e-Learning can be referenced as instructor-led training (ILT), web-based training (WBT), and even computer-based training (CBT). Learners choose when to participate. Synchronous: Synchronous learning refers to a learning environment in which everyone participates at the same time. E-Learning can be live or self-paced.
With self-paced training starting to slump, could synchronous training (self-paced learning’s antithesis) be making a comeback? In this post, we ask: “ What is synchronous training? What is synchronous training? You’ll hear the terms synchronous and asynchronous used a lot in conjunction with employee training programs.
If this is the first time you are moving to Virtual Training or you are looking at rapid acceleration of your ILT to a virtual mode, read on! Virtual Instructor-Led Training sessions or VILT refers to training delivered in a virtual or simulated environment where the trainer and learner are at two different locations. Introduction.
