Im comforted to know that Im not the only one who receives blank stares or gets tongue-twisted in trying to describe what I do.

Im not looking for the obtuse theory books. Im already feeling a bit overwhelmed. Im about halfway through Michael Allens new book, Designing Successful E-Learning. Between you and John Im going to need to ask for a visit to Ikea for a new bookshelf too! #2 I prefer the get-down-and-dirty variety. What would you add?
Im not a big theory person. Im much more into practical application. Im not saying that these theories are right or wrong -- but they get tossed about and referred to with great relish by some in the industry. Im not a big theory person. Im much more into practical application." Amen, Cammy.
But Im not sure I can get people to hold their answers back. Sorry Tony, but Im going to jump into the conversation now. Dont worry though; Im sure Ill still have more to say if you do this for the Big Question for February. Im on a smaller team though, so we are basically the "one-stop shop." 5:07 PM christytucker said.
Im struck by why I find this topic so interesting. And on that note, I think Im pretty much done now with my learning styles assignment. Cammy Beans Learning Visions Musings on eLearning, instructional design and other training stuff. As a practical person, I tend to avoid theory. Somehow this is an easy starting point. For the moment.
Monday, November 05, 2007 Instructional Design Inspiration As I mentioned last week , Im in the midst of designing my first custom eLearning course in quite awhile. Now that Ive been actually doing some writing, Im having to put it all to work. Ideally, Im trying to figure out how to make this a bit interactive.
Tuesday, April 03, 2007 eLearning Guild Event -- My Sessions As Ive mentioned here before, Im extremely excited about attending the upcoming eLearning Guild event here in Boston. Im excited to go to as many sessions as I can. Im excited to pick peoples brains. And Im wondering if Im missing something really cool.
Im no Facebook super-user and I havent experienced a huge time suck from it, but I suppose its possible. Cammy, Im just a "lite" Facebook user, but I have seen profile pages that list their workplaces with commentary about how horrible their company is, or how much they hate their job. And Im in complete agreement.
Im in that beginner-mind zone. Although Ive been doing this work for 15ish years, the ground beneath me is shaky and I feel like Im in new waters, navigating new people, new processes, new tools. Im suddenly racking up lots of frequent flyer points. When Im actually in town, I work from the shed. Im @cammybean.
Tuesday, March 25, 2008 Jott This Blog I havent had so much time lately to blog, as this project Im working on has been quite grueling. I find my best time for thinking up excellent blog entries is late at night when Im lying in bed. That is, of course, if Im even awake after the kids have finally fallen asleep.
Monday, June 25, 2007 Getting Pysched for FaceBook Im definitely feeling out-of-my element in this whole FaceBook thing. Im trying to get into it and discover its potential professional uses. Im just scratching the surface, I suppose. Im feeling lonely and really nerdy. Id like to push this somehow, but Im not sure.
Im looking for some input: good examples of software product training. Im working on a pitch to a software company -- technical audience (think database guys). Im not looking to work with another vendor, Im just looking to see good examples of software training to make sure Im not behind the times!
So, what do I do if Im not doing that? Im not such an anal person, so this isnt my favorite thing in the world. And Im really excited about the project Im working on. Im sure its not an insult, but I just dont think Id be so comfortable having that on my business card :) 9:03 AM ahsigmon said. The website copy.
Im a convert. Yes, Im an English major who writes mostly text bullets instead of novels. So Im curious: what drove you to revisit theory? Cammy, Im glad to hear you so revved up. Jane -- In theory, Im not against theory. Im still of that mindset. Now Im reading Cold Spring Harbor. Thankfully.
For various reasons, Im not going to go back to school to get a Masters Degree in instructional design. But I firmly believe that this journey Im on is giving me the experience and educational equivalent (if not better) than a formal M.Ed. Even though Ive been doing this ("instructional design") for over ten years, Im starting over.
Tuesday, June 19, 2007 Using FaceBook Im trying to expand my horizons a bit these days and have been taking a closer look at a whole bunch of tools out there, including SecondLife and FaceBook. Im interested in how we could leverage that existing community for better communication, learning opportunities, networking, etc.
You ARE a geek! :-) Whats lighting up my life this week is "Beyond Bullet Points" which Im using to structure the PPT that Im going to use for my webinar on time management next month. Im having fun taking more of a story-telling/visual approach to the topic, which frankly bores me to tears, but is what the client wants. #2
Back to the Google Desktop -- Im playing around a bit with the searching capabilities and am seeing the light. Im struggling a bit with figuring out how to set the preferences so that it searches where I need it to search (I save most of my files to a shared network drive; not locally). So the search feature -- I get that and Im sold.
Im not a techie -- far from it. Im an instructional designer with an emphasis on writing and schmoozing. Google Alerts A nice adjunct to Google Reader; Im always discovering something new via my "instructional design" alert. Im #34 on the list. " This adage works for me most of the time as Im designing eLearning courses. Right now, Im feeling like just getting to good would be an achievement. Right now, Im proofing a storyboard thats full of endless text bullets and boring software demos with no interactivity -- and theres really nothing I can do about it.
Im literally not a gamer. Im not sure how I got into games.but I think it had something to do with PONG. But Im so lost at sea for the most part in these environments. But Im no gamer. I dont do the online social games, so Im not a Gamer 4.0, but Im definitely a gamer. 12:21 PM Clive Shepherd said.
Im losing my steam, but trying to stay somewhat on target. So go ahead and "Email or IM another blogger in your niche to introduce yourself and your blog". I want to share as much as I can about projects Im working on. Im not sure Ill bother with that. Im not sure if it does much for a site with minimal traffic.
Im not talking about the quantity of my friends, but rather the breadth and depth. Im not sure if there was a specific tipping point for me, but I was certainly amused when one of my friends informed me that Im personally responsible for making her waste more time on Facebook than she ever thought possible. Think Uggs.
In fact, Ive had very little of interest to add to any conversation of late, mostly because Im much more focused on my personal life and the many transitions Im handling there. Although Im professional, I do have many faces. Usually, Im the one with the camera. I do, indeed, often look like that. But thats just one view.
Im guessing youre designing online distance learning courses. Im in the weird place of for-profit education, which really has characteristics of both market sectors. Having just a bachelors degree seems to be fine as long as you arent working directly for the universities (Im not sure about K-12 online). What do you do?
Sorry you had that experience, but Im glad to know Im not the only one. They were coming at me in the chat, then IM, and when they started coming into my email I quit the program. Ive been into SL several times but Im very daunted about attempting to talk to anyone, so usually wander around by myself.
Im a touchy-feely-people-kind-of-person. Making the time to engage in conversations online does seem to move towards greater abundancy thinking and Im really enjoying the opportunities it is presenting. Ive reached out to more people and more people are reaching out to me. Its awesome. But with community comes great responsibility. (Im
And Im not implying that Im a Second Life naysayer. Ive been exploring the use of Second Life for a client for whom Im developing an e-Learning strategy. Theirs is an audience comprised only of women and Im not convinced Second Life will feel appropriate to them. As you may know, Ive only been there once.
