Did you know that being a member of the IMS Global Learning Consortium distinguishes a learning management system (LMS)? If an LMS is affiliated with the IMS Global Learning Consortium, it is a quality eLearning system that was designed with the highest standards of performance in mind. What is the IMS Global Learning Consortium?
Wednesday, August 01, 2007 Learning Visions Im Cammy Bean and this is my little corner of the world where I talk about instructional design and topics somewhat related to eLearning. Most of that time, Ive worked for eLearning vendors: companies that design and develop eLearning programs for a wide variety of corporate clients.
Rustici Engine and Rustici Dispatch have officially passed the IMS Global certification testing for Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI). Throughout the certification process, the support team at IMS was very responsive to questions and issues discovered along the way. What does LTI certification mean for Rustici Engine?
IMS Global Learning Consortium says, ‘When vendors take advantage of a common approach to interoperability, such as LTI, integrations can be completed considerably faster and at a much lower cost.’ Is this the first time you are hearing about Learning Tools Interoperability?
And then the IMS (an initiative of Educause before being spun out as an independent effort) started creating standards, as did the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), the major body in the US responsible for computing standards. Vendors got on board, and SCORM became a more-or-less viable mechanism.
Learning Tools Interoperability is a specification that was developed by the IMS Global Learning Consortium. LTI is an acronym for ‘Learning Tools Interoperability’. In short, LTI integrates learning applications. Often, these learning applications are provided via a third-party service.
We may have all been drinking the same cool-aid, but at the IMS Global Learning Consortium Learning Impact Conference in Toronto, there was a meeting of the minds. The IMS is at the cutting edge of web 2.0 open and flexible architectures. LTI (Learning Tool Interoperability) in particular has cracked the LMS open.
But Im not sure I can get people to hold their answers back. Sorry Tony, but Im going to jump into the conversation now. Dont worry though; Im sure Ill still have more to say if you do this for the Big Question for February. Im on a smaller team though, so we are basically the "one-stop shop." 5:07 PM christytucker said.
Note: there are additional rating items such as would use again, vendor responsiveness, etc. Questions and items can also be imported from MS Word, IMS QTI, Respondus, rich-text, and other formats. So, the eLearningGuild research again to the rescue. Here's guild member satisfaction ratings for tools in the test / quiz category.
Those future trends include Spontaneous Learning Systems (SLS), Intelligent Mentoring Systems (IMS), and highly personalized learning services. In 2017 they will continue to grow as vendors begin to support the new trends more heavily. Michael Allen is the CEO of Allen Interactions. Learn more about Julie here. Brent Schlenker.

Im Alex, and today were talking about an incredible platform thats redefining how businesses and organizations host events, collaborate, and engage virtually: EventAnywhere.com. Im really excited to talk about Event Anywhereits a platform thats changing how we think about remote engagement and virtual experiences.
The IMS Global Learning Consortium has announced the release latest version of the IMS Learning Tools Interoperability Specification – Version 1.1. Perhaps the unintended consequence of the IMS LTI 1.1 specification promoted by the LMS vendors is that it actually fosters their own obsolescence.
So, what do I do if Im not doing that? Im not such an anal person, so this isnt my favorite thing in the world. What strategies are helping other vendors succeed? And Im really excited about the project Im working on. And Im really excited about the project Im working on. The website copy. I schmooze.
Im looking for some input: good examples of software product training. Im working on a pitch to a software company -- technical audience (think database guys). Im not looking to work with another vendor, Im just looking to see good examples of software training to make sure Im not behind the times!
There are a bunch of other standards by ADL (who is responsible for SCORM ), IMS , IEEE LTSC including CORDRAâ„¢ , LOM , Meta-data , etc. Note: ARIADNE, AICC, IEEE LTSC, and IMS all participate in ADL's work on SCORM). Do you plan to develop content in house and also purchase content from one or more third-party content vendors?
Im just about to kickoff a new project with a manufacturing organization to produce some custom courses. Im gonna call them an "immature e-Learning organization." Vendors -- of which I am one -- are often in the position of just answering the mail. These are the challenges of being the external vendor. Games are scary.

Monday, March 23, 2009 Market Differences in eLearning Im a fan of the number 42. Microsoft in India, just hires content development managers, whose core skill sets is ID, but their role turns out to be that of a vendor manager and content reviewer, as Microsoft (in India) outsources elearning work to 3rd parties.
Say, if youre purchasing a course library from SkillSoft or some other vendor: If a client has their own LMS, do they purchase the courses outright and host them on their own servers? If so, is the vendor able to track usage or do they just sell the content for a flat fee based on LMS seat size? By actual usage?
One of my favorites is browser check because while vendors say their systems are browser agnostic, I have found in many systems this not to be the case. I think any LMS vendor our there would want such dedication for their system, but alas it is not to be. . So having a browser check is a good idea. #5 ATUTOR. 2 forma.lms.
Im going to quote heavily from the article here, inserting my own thoughts along the way. Why should companies go with e-Learning vendors when rapid e-Learning tools are available? Have the e-Learning vendor create the first few custom programs. Granted, Im not commenting on the design nor the quality of the material.
Oh, except Im the developer and audio engineer too. And Im "lucky" enough to have access to the software. Im wondering if theres anything better out there. Im in the midst of writing another one of these, so am very happy for the distraction :) Answers to your questions: 1) Yep. 3:30 PM Wendy said. Hang in there!!!!
I think Im somewhat of an anomaly in the field. Maybe Im not an instructional designer at all. Maybe Im not an instructional designer at all. Christy has been writing about how to get started in instructional design and what technology tools you might need. I dont do any programming. I dont build courses.

As an e-Learning vendor, I think its our responsibility to make sure that our clients have thought this through. Im sure it matters to them. Of course these vendors will want to provide updated content in order to ensure their clients dont have out of date material. Thanks to Janet for bringing this issue up!
How many of you have seen vendors respond to your questions? A: Virtually every LMS vendor out there in the marketplace provides these features. Congrats, you are probably looking at less than 10 (based on my LMS directory which contains 475 vendors). Smart App for TV – One LMS vendor. SCORM/AICC/PENS/IMS.
In the late 1990s, each learning management system had its own proprietary content format, which encouraged vendor lock-in. You had to use that vendor’s tools to create e-Learning that worked with that LMS, or your content wouldn’t play. That’s a bit like what was happening in the e-Learning community before SCORM was established.
While there are vendors who tout mobile LMSs and courses that can be seen on smartphones, I’m not too keen on taking an actual course on my smartphone. Mobile LMS or LMSs and courses that work on tablets is another story, but most vendors today focus squarely on the smartphone arena. and follow a step by step process.
Friday, June 15, 2007 ADDIE: Its a Process This is probably an argument made in any Instructional Design 101 class; I dont think Im saying anything new here. Most e-Learning vendors mention ADDIE or some form thereof on their websites as if it was a real science about creating effective learning.
What has been applying is the term mobile learning and how it it pitched to consumers in the e-learning sector, especially with LMS/LCMS/Learning platform vendors. If at a minimum you can implement at least one of these features (and yes, there are content authoring tool and LMS vendors who have it/working on it now), that works for me.
Mobile to Me is not necessarily M-Learning to you (from the vendors’ perspective). Mobile is still on the rise, with more vendors (LMS, authoring tools, assessment, e-learning tools, etc.) Some vendors still only enable this capability via a smartphone, but more are incorporating tablets. jumping on the bandwagon.
The IMS Global Consortium is defining the next generation of standards that make this market transformation possible. Open Content - Content exists in the cloud where vendors stand should-to-shoulder and compete on a level playing field. The emerging model will have open content, open ePortfolio, and open tools.

These applications are powerful tools for creating and managing test banks published directly to Brightspace, Canvas, Moodle, and IMS QTI format. Blackboard.
Would IM bundle virtual classrooms. Will content vendors merge with other content, or with tools? Online courses on Windows and biology 101 and ethics. The question used to be, what would be bundled? Would EPSs bundle LMSs? Then the question is, what will be merged/acquired. Which LMSs and LCMSs will merge? Now there is open source.
