A personallearning environment refers to the tools, technologies, resources etc. that a person uses at the individual level to build on his knowledge base. By and large, this constitutes John’s PersonalLearning Environment (PLE). PLEs have certainly evolved with the coming of the digital age.
Ray Sims has a great post on PersonalLearning Environment and personallearning environments. I agree with his overall goal, but I'm not sure I separate Learning and Doing. In fact, the ideal in most cases is that learning is set up as doing. It gives context for what they were going to learn.
That means that when you learn, you do it differently to everyone else. If you are a student you may be sat in the same classroom or lecture hall as many other students, and listening to the same content, but you interpret it differently to everyone else. The PLE is an approach rather than a technology. Unported License.
Over the next weeks, I will be writing about personalizedlearning and how that applies to different learning populations. At first I’ll address K12 learning, then I’ll address how personalization affects a high-skill knowledge workforce, and a service workforce. Is K12 ready for PersonalizedLearning?
