I must confess it is now four months since I received an in-depth demonstration from the people at Saba of their People Systems Suites. First off, it’s worth noting that Saba does not seem to have been suffering like so many of its competitors through the downturn: It gained 113 new customers in 2010, which was a record year.
It has been a wild week from the acquisition of Saba by Cornerstone to the ability to compare systems in detail on FindAnLMS, to the Coronavirus and the usage of Microsoft Teams as part of the L&D experience. But when experts say today’s job market is as much about capabilities as it is about the products, they clearly see a change that is evident — all those Ivy League b-schools that once flaunted their traditional course catalogs are now switching from “courses” to specialized training modules based on real-life use cases.

I say this, and you can see it yourself, buy seeing all the modules available. Saba Learning. But I digress.
Tools which create media-rich components ( Raptivity , Flash , PowerPoint, Acrobat, Captivate) which can then be inserted into other tools, as opposed to those tools which provide the wrapper and depend on you bringing in the really hot stuff from elsewhere (as with most built-in LMS/LCMS authoring modules).
Want to create mini-modules, with a TOC and interactive/engaging content – with real world scenarios in the micro? Still in existence Saba – Today? Saba – was the first vendor to tap into machine learning, with TIM. If you wanted micro-learning, you could do it. Yep, readily available. Yep doable.
I wouldn’t touch the Saba solution, which has another alphabetical salad of letters, because CBX is significantly better. The increase will come depending on the number of add-on modules you go with. The Other modules – Absorb Create LI is their authoring tool. Mobile is good. Absorb – $$ to $$$.
Cornerstone continues to improve with each new release and depending on what they extract from Saba, could really shake things up a bit. . If I want performance mgt, I will be an HCM or purchase a PM module. For example, Absorb, CrossKnowledge and SAP Litmos have very nice UXs, just as EdCast and Learn Amp do on the LXP side.
The add-on modules Engage, Analyze, Amplify are great. It also does not include Saba nor SumTotal. Skills module very good – from data visualization that will tell you the necessary learning story to Skills frequency chart, top skills and top skills with a specific role or topic. Learner side especially, lots to like here.

If you are seeking an HCM or a system and plan to buy two or more modules, then Cornerstone, SumTotal, Saba are definite routes to consider. Mercury Module – specifically the banners component, although new stories is interesting – it already exists in quite a few systems, same thing with contests and polls. Saba: See SumTotal. Their original UI was always smooth so it only gets better. SumTotal: Expensive system and what you are buying is name IMO.
