The Internet Time Community has been hosted on Ning for a little over three years. I was shocked and saddened when Ning announced that its free service was ending. Lots of non-profits had signed up on Ning. Many of these organizations have zero tech support. The way Ning handled things left a bad taste in my mouth.

I expected Ning to close it when they went to pay-to-play. After all, their site says: Deadline for Selecting a Ning Plan Has Passed. We are no longer offering or supporting free Ning Networks. If you haven’t selected a plan for your free Ning Network, you can no longer access the network.

Creating a new Ning network is very easy and it gives you a lot of what you would want / need as a work team. I’ve seen it mostly as a job hunt tool (consequently, more for others than myself, e.g. to support people I know who are on a job search), but he’s leveraging it as an expertise tool.
